Ways to Kill Flies

There are several ways to kill flies, but not all are effective. You may have tried some strange techniques like repelling flies by water bags with pennies, this is not a myth. It does work but after time it begins to wear off like everything else. Perhaps you’ve tried homemade methods like using vinegar to catch flies. This works too. But again, most people find this remedy to last for a very short time. Fly swatters are great for the occasional fly but that’s only as good as your aim. If your restaurant has a fly problem, you’ll need to put away the short remedies and start making long term plan.

Blower Fans

Blower fans at the door ways of the restaurant, mainly at back door does a really good job to repelling flies. This is because the back door is used the most to take out the trash and where all the food trucks bring in needed supplies. Although blower fans doesn’t necessary kill flies, it does a good job at controlling them and keeping them out of restaurants.

Fly Ribbons

Fly ribbons or sticky fly tape might catch a few flies but it is a horrible idea for restaurants. You definitely don’t want dead flies hanging from the ceiling on one of these things where customers may see them or an inspector does a surprise visit. If you use fly ribbons, stop. Take them down and don’t ever use them again.

Fly Lights

Fly lights are what most pest control companies use to control flies but can cost you a log of money. What if I told you it would cost you a lot of money and they don’t even work that well? What they don’t tell you is fly lights are most effective at night when there’s no competing light in the restaurant. That means they don’t work in the day, they don’t work if your restaurant is open 24/7, they don’t work when the lights are on after closing.

  1. You can buy Fly lights at cost $125-$250 (recommended)
  2. Pest Control Companies Charge a monthly fee $25-$55 monthly (equipment rented)

Fly Control (FSC)

To get rid of flies in you restaurant we believe you only need to do two things. The first thing you need to do is remove anything that attracts flies. For example, sanitize and clean all drains, dishwasher area, trash storage area, etc. Any build up of food or trash attracts flies. Most flies start congregating at the dumpster before getting to the restaurant. Pressure washing the dumpster area, sidewalks, backdoor, and drive through area on a monthly basis can detour flies from your location. The second thing you need to do is schedule a fly control treatment that will make you virtually fly free! It’s been tested in the toughest market areas and has proven itself. This application must take place after hours when the restaurant is closed. It’s guaranteed eight weeks and recommended that you schedule this treatment during the summer months when the flies are active. Prepping before and cleaning afterwards is required.
